What Is an AR Card?

AR is the Japanese rarity code that matches the English Illustration Rare. Bulbapedia’s rarity guide explains that it was introduced with Scarlet & Violet, is marked with a single gold star, and is used on full-art Pokémon cards other than Pokémon ex. In booster packs, an AR can take the place of the second reverse holo, which is why they turn up regularly but never in every pack.

Why Buy AR Bulk

Bulk lots are a simple way to collect artwork without opening dozens of packs. They make a fun starting point for a Japanese binder, and collectors use them to build themed pages by type or artist, trade spares with friends, or give a young fan a stack of colourful cards. Japanese cards are not tournament-legal in English play, but AR cards are mostly collected for their illustrations anyway.
