Description
Buy the Foundations Beginner Box from Obsidia TCG and learn Magic: The Gathering at the kitchen table with a friend. Wizards of the Coast released it alongside the Foundations set on 15 November 2024 as an all-in-one way to start playing.
What’s in the Foundations Beginner Box
- 2 tutorial decks of 20 cards, Cats and Vampires, set in order for a guided first game
- 8 more 20-card themed decks: Healing, Pirates, Wizards, Undead, Goblins, Inferno, Elves and Primal
- 2 How to Play guide booklets and 1 rules reference booklet
- 2 reference cards
- 2 gameboard playmats
- 2 spindown life counters
The contents match Wizards of the Coast’s Foundations Beginner Box contents article. The eight themed decks use the Jumpstart shuffle-two-together idea, but they are Beginner Box decks rather than Foundations Jumpstart (J25) packs.
How the Foundations Beginner Box Teaches You
Start with the Cats and Vampires decks. They are stacked in a set order, so don’t shuffle them: the guide booklets walk both players through the first game turn by turn. Once you know the basics, each player picks two of the themed decks, shuffles them together into a 40-card deck and plays. The playmats help you lay out your cards, and the spindowns keep track of life totals.
Is It Right for You?
The box suits two complete beginners, a parent and child learning together, or an experienced player teaching a friend. If you already know the rules and want more variety, the Foundations Jumpstart Booster Box adds 46 themes of 20-card half-decks to mix and match.
