The Pokémon Pitch Black card list has 120 cards, and its headline is Mega Darkrai ex, with Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex close behind. It’s the fifth main expansion of the Mega Evolution series, and the full list has been public since the set came out in July 2026, so collectors can plan a binder from the first pack.
This guide walks through the set’s size and structure, every rarity tier, a verified table of the cards collectors hunt most, and a clear look at what’s inside each English product. We don’t reprint all 120 cards, but every card name and number below has been checked against the published set lists.
Pokémon Pitch Black at a Glance
Pokémon Pitch Black, sold in full as Mega Evolution—Pitch Black, was released worldwide on 17 July 2026. Prerelease events ran at participating stores from 4 July, and the set reached Pokémon TCG Live a day early, on 16 July. The official Pokémon press release names four featured Pokémon: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex.
The set introduces Mega Evolution Pokémon from the Mega Dimension downloadable content for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Bulbapedia describes it as the first main set based on that DLC. Each of the four featured Pokémon has its own booster pack design, and all four pack artworks are credited to the artist akagi.
The theme is right there in the name. The official product description talks about twinkling city lights and a starry sky being swallowed by darkness as Mega Darkrai ex arrives, with Mega Zeraora ex fighting back with strikes of lightning. Limitless TCG lists the English set under the code PBL.
Where Pitch Black Sits in the Series
The Mega Evolution series began with Mega Evolution on 26 September 2025, followed by Phantasmal Flames (14 November 2025), Ascended Heroes (30 January 2026), Perfect Order (27 March 2026) and Chaos Rising (22 May 2026). Pitch Black came next, and the 30th Celebration set followed on 16 September 2026, according to Limitless TCG’s set list.
If you’re collecting the whole run, our Pokémon Perfect Order card list covers the set two releases earlier, and our Mega Evolutions booster box guide goes back to where the series started.

How the Pokémon Pitch Black Card List Is Structured
The complete Pokémon Pitch Black card list runs to 120 cards: 84 in the main set, numbered 001/084 to 084/084, and 36 secret rares numbered from 085/084 to 120/084. Bulbapedia’s Pitch Black page confirms that every Rare and lower-rarity card also comes in a reverse holo version, which matters if you’re building a master set.
Here’s how the cards break down.
- Main set (001–084): commons, uncommons, rares and ten Double Rare Pokémon ex, six of which are Mega Evolution Pokémon ex.
- Illustration Rares (085–095): 11 full-art cards of regular Pokémon, from Fomantis to Silvally.
- Ultra Rares (096–113): 18 full-art cards, made up of eight Pokémon ex and ten Trainer cards.
- Special Illustration Rares (114–119): six cards, four Pokémon ex and two Supporters.
- Mega Hyper Rare (120): a single top-rarity card, Mega Darkrai ex.
Those counts match the official announcement, which promised six Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, four other Pokémon ex, 11 illustration rares, 18 ultra rares and six special illustration rares. The result is one clear top card, a tight group of six special illustration rares beneath it, and a friendly run of illustration rares.
The Pokémon ex in the Main Set
The ten Double Rare Pokémon ex are Lurantis ex (004/084), Mega Delphox ex (008/084), Wailord ex (016/084), Mega Zeraora ex (027/084), Mega Slowbro ex (031/084), Mega Chandelure ex (038/084), Rampardos ex (045/084), Mega Darkrai ex (048/084), Morpeko ex (055/084) and Mega Excadrill ex (065/084).
Eight of them also have an Ultra Rare full-art version in the secret rares. The two that don’t are Mega Delphox ex and Mega Slowbro ex, so their Double Rare prints are the only versions of those two cards in the set.
Trainers and Special Energy
The main set’s Supporters are Gladion’s Final Battle (077/084), Gwynn (078/084), Jett (079/084), Misty’s Vitality (080/084) and Rust Syndicate Grunt (081/084). Alongside them are three Items (Antique Armor Fossil, Antique Skull Fossil and Dark Bell, at 072, 073 and 075), two Pokémon Tools (Backtrack Badge at 074 and Tremendous Bomb at 082) and a Stadium, Fossil Quarry (076/084).
Two Special Energy cards finish the main set: Shadowy Darkness Energy (083/084) and Voltaic Lightning Energy (084/084), as Limitless TCG and Serebii list them.
The Best Pokémon Pitch Black Chase Cards
These are the cards collectors ask about most. We’re describing interest and rarity here, not value, which changes too quickly to be useful in a guide.
Mega Darkrai ex Mega Hyper Rare (120/084)
The final card in the Pokémon Pitch Black card list is the one most collectors want first: Mega Darkrai ex at 120/084. It’s the set’s only Mega Hyper Rare, and as the expansion’s central Pokémon, it’s the natural headline pull.
Mega Darkrai ex Special Illustration Rare (116/084)
The second big Mega Darkrai ex is its special illustration rare at 116/084, which Limitless TCG credits to AKIRA EGAWA. Mega Darkrai ex appears four times in the set: as a Double Rare (048/084), an Ultra Rare (101/084), this special illustration rare and the Mega Hyper Rare.
Mega Zeraora ex Special Illustration Rare (114/084)
Mega Zeraora ex is the set’s second lead, and its special illustration rare opens the run at 114/084. Limitless credits the artwork to GIDORA. It’s the natural partner card for Mega Darkrai ex, since the official product description has Mega Zeraora ex fighting back against it.
Mega Chandelure ex Special Illustration Rare (115/084)
Mega Chandelure ex is one of the four featured Pokémon, and its special illustration rare at 115/084 suits the set’s dark, night-time theme well. Limitless lists REND as the illustrator. Chandelure fans will want the Double Rare (038/084) and Ultra Rare (099/084) versions alongside it.
Morpeko ex Special Illustration Rare (117/084)
Morpeko ex isn’t a Mega Evolution, but it has a special illustration rare at 117/084, credited on Limitless to NC Empire. It’s a lighter card in a darker set, and that contrast should appeal to collectors who enjoy character-led artwork.
Gladion’s Final Battle and Gwynn (118/084 and 119/084)
The two Supporter special illustration rares are Gladion’s Final Battle (118/084) and Gwynn (119/084). Both also have Ultra Rare versions, at 108/084 and 109/084. Trainer special illustration rares appeal to collectors who follow the characters, and to players who like premium versions of the cards they use.

Illustration Rares Worth Watching
The 11 illustration rares are the most approachable secret rares in the set. Slowbro (090/084) is a nice one to pair with the Slowpoke promo from the checklane blister, while Primarina (088/084), Armarouge (086/084) and Silvally (095/084) are easy picks for fans of those Pokémon. If the special illustration rares feel out of reach, completing the illustration rare run is a satisfying goal in its own right.
Pokémon Pitch Black Card List: Chase Card Table
Use this table as a checklist when you sort your pulls. Card numbers and rarities come from Bulbapedia’s set list and are cross-checked against Limitless TCG’s Pitch Black database.
| Card | Number | Rarity | Why collectors want it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Darkrai ex | 120/084 | Mega Hyper Rare | The set’s only Mega Hyper Rare and its central Pokémon |
| Mega Darkrai ex | 116/084 | Special Illustration Rare | Full illustrated version of the headline Pokémon |
| Mega Zeraora ex | 114/084 | Special Illustration Rare | Featured Pokémon and Mega Darkrai ex’s rival |
| Mega Chandelure ex | 115/084 | Special Illustration Rare | Featured Pokémon that fits the night-time theme |
| Morpeko ex | 117/084 | Special Illustration Rare | Character-led art in a darker set |
| Gladion’s Final Battle | 118/084 | Special Illustration Rare | One of two Supporter special illustration rares |
| Gwynn | 119/084 | Special Illustration Rare | The second Supporter special illustration rare |
| Mega Excadrill ex | 103/084 | Ultra Rare | Featured Pokémon with no special illustration rare |
| Slowbro | 090/084 | Illustration Rare | Pairs with the Slowpoke checklane promo |
| Primarina | 088/084 | Illustration Rare | Caps the Popplio line, which is also in the main set |
One thing to notice is that Mega Excadrill ex, despite being a featured Pokémon, has no special illustration rare. Its Ultra Rare at 103/084 is its top version in the set.
Other Secret Rares in the Set
The rest of the Pokémon Pitch Black card list has plenty for binder collectors. The eight Ultra Rare Pokémon ex are Lurantis ex (096/084), Wailord ex (097/084), Mega Zeraora ex (098/084), Mega Chandelure ex (099/084), Rampardos ex (100/084), Mega Darkrai ex (101/084), Morpeko ex (102/084) and Mega Excadrill ex (103/084).
The ten Ultra Rare Trainers, numbered 104/084 to 113/084, are Brave Bangle, Crushing Hammer, Dark Bell, Energy Switch, Gladion’s Final Battle, Gwynn, Iron Defender, Misty’s Vitality, Rust Syndicate Grunt and Tremendous Bomb. Full-art Trainers like these appeal to players who like to sleeve premium versions of their staples.
The illustration rares are Fomantis (085), Armarouge (086), Goldeen (087), Primarina (088), Manectric (089), Slowbro (090), Dhelmise (091), Thievul (092), Bastiodon (093), Toucannon (094) and Silvally (095). Several of them have matching main-set evolution lines, so they work well at the end of a binder page.
What’s Inside Each English Pokémon Pitch Black Product
Every English product below contains the same Pitch Black booster packs, so the difference is how many packs you get and what comes with them. No product targets a specific card.
Booster Box
The English Pokémon Pitch Black Booster Box is the full display. Official listings describe the English Pitch Black booster box as 36 booster packs, each with 10 game cards, so check the pack count on the product page before you order. A full display is the best fit for group openings, set collectors and anyone who wants the widest spread of the set in one go. Browse other displays in our English booster boxes category.
Elite Trainer Box
The English Pokémon Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box is the all-rounder. Its official contents are:
- 9 Pitch Black booster packs
- 1 full-art foil promo card featuring Zarude
- 65 card sleeves and 40 Energy cards
- A player’s guide to the expansion
- 6 damage-counter dice, 1 competition-legal coin-flip die and 1 plastic coin
- A collector’s box with 6 dividers, plus a code card for Pokémon TCG Live
Bulbapedia lists the Zarude promo as MEP 088 in the Mega Evolution Black Star Promos. The sleeves, dice and Energy cards make the ETB a sensible first box for a newer player, and the storage box is a handy home for your sleeved Pitch Black cards afterwards.
How the Pokémon Center ETB Differs
A Pokémon Center edition of the Pitch Black ETB was also made for the official Pokémon Center store. Retailer copies of its official listing show two differences from the standard box: 11 booster packs instead of 9, and a second Zarude promo marked with a Pokémon Center logo alongside the regular one. The accessories are listed as the same. Our listing’s name doesn’t mention the Pokémon Center edition, so if you’re unsure which box you need, email sales@obsidiatcg.co.uk before you order.

Booster Bundle
The English Pokémon Pitch Black Booster Bundle holds six booster packs, and official listings don’t add any accessories. It’s an easy way to try the set and a tidy present for someone who already has sleeves and dice.
3-Pack Blister
The English Pokémon Pitch Black 3-Pack Blister pairs three booster packs with a promo card. For this set, the three-pack blister promo is Binacle, listed by Bulbapedia as MEP 087.

Checklane Blister and the Slowpoke Promo
The English Pokémon Pitch Black Checklane Blister is the single-pack option. Retailer listings of the official product show that the Pitch Black single-pack blister contains one booster pack, a Slowpoke foil promo card and a coin, and Bulbapedia lists that Slowpoke as MEP 086.
The Slowpoke promo is a fun one for line collectors, because the set also has a Slowpoke (029/084), a Slowbro (030/084), Mega Slowbro ex (031/084) and the Slowbro illustration rare (090/084). It makes the checklane blister a good stocking filler with a reason to keep the promo.
Build & Battle Box
The English Pokémon Pitch Black Build & Battle Box is built for prerelease-style play. It contains a 40-card ready-to-play deck that includes one of four foil promo cards, four Pitch Black booster packs and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. You can mix cards from the packs into the deck to build something of your own.
The four possible promos are Miraidon (MEP 082), Slowbro (MEP 083), Dhelmise (MEP 084) and Bastiodon (MEP 085). Bulbapedia also lists non-holo versions of a few Pitch Black cards, including Miraidon, Spiritomb, Bastiodon and Silvally, as exclusive to the Build & Battle Box.

Promos That Sit Alongside the Set
Promo cards aren’t part of the 120-card Pokémon Pitch Black card list, but master set collectors often track them. Bulbapedia’s Mega Evolution promo records link these cards to Pitch Black products:
- Build & Battle Box: Miraidon (MEP 082), Slowbro (MEP 083), Dhelmise (MEP 084) and Bastiodon (MEP 085)
- Single-pack checklane blister: Slowpoke (MEP 086)
- Three-pack blister: Binacle (MEP 087)
- Elite Trainer Box and Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box: Zarude (MEP 088), with a Pokémon Center logo version in the Pokémon Center edition
Many collectors keep these in a separate binder page next to their Pokémon Pitch Black chase cards, so the promos don’t interrupt the numbered set.
How to Choose a Pitch Black Product
Since every product contains the same packs, choose by format and extras rather than by any one card.
- Most packs: the booster box.
- Accessories for play or a gift: the Elite Trainer Box.
- Ready to play straight away: the Build & Battle Box, with its 40-card deck.
- A quick taste: the booster bundle.
- A small gift with a promo: the 3-pack blister or the checklane blister.
If you’re opening with friends, a booster box is the easiest to share out. If you’re opening alone and want storage afterwards, an Elite Trainer Box doubles as a home for your sleeved cards and the Energy you’ll need to play them.
English and Japanese Versions
The English set includes cards from the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion, which was released in Japan on 22 May 2026. Abyss Eye’s main set is numbered to 081, and Limitless TCG lists 118 cards in total, while the English Pokémon Pitch Black card list has 120. The two sets don’t line up exactly, and card numbers differ between languages: Mega Darkrai ex is 046 in Abyss Eye but 048 in Pitch Black, for example.
The Pitch Black products we list are English. If you collect both languages, match cards by name and artwork rather than by number, and see the Obsidia TCG blog for more guides to English and Japanese sets.
Tips for Using the Pokémon Pitch Black Card List
A little organisation when you open packs makes the Pokémon Pitch Black card list far more useful.
- Sort by number. Anything printed above 084/084 is a secret rare, so set those cards aside first.
- Sleeve the big pulls. Move special illustration rares and the Mega Hyper Rare into a penny sleeve and a top loader straight away.
- Track reverse holos separately. Every Rare and lower-rarity card has a reverse holo version, which adds a lot of cards to a master set.
- Plan the binder. A nine-pocket page laid out by number makes gaps easy to spot, and leaving spaces for unpulled Pokémon Pitch Black chase cards keeps the page in order.
- Trade for gaps. With six special illustration rares and one Mega Hyper Rare, trading with friends or at your local store is often the quickest way to finish.
