How the McDonald’s Japan Promo Worked
According to Bulbapedia’s Pikachu M-P Promo 20 page, the cards were given out from 9 to 11 August 2025, during a campaign that began on 8 August. Each Happy Meal came with a two-card promo pack that always included this Pikachu, plus one random reprint from Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, Ralts or Riolu. Pikachu was the card every pack shared, so it became the face of the promotion. The other five cards were the Paldea starter trio plus Ralts and Riolu, so some collectors try to gather all six.
Why Collectors Want It
McDonald’s promos are some of the most recognisable Pokémon cards, and Japanese editions are less often seen in the UK. Pikachu’s attack does 10 damage to one of your opponent’s Pokémon, but most fans keep this card for its artwork and its story rather than for play. It is a light, simple purchase that still feels special. Japanese cards are not tournament-legal in English play, so treat it as a binder piece or a small gift for a Pikachu fan. It sits nicely alongside English McDonald’s promos and other Japanese Pikachu cards, and a toploader or penny sleeve keeps it in good condition once opened.
