Riftbound Booster Box Guide

What's inside a Riftbound booster box, how the sets from Origins to Radiance compare, and how English and Chinese boxes differ.

13 min read

A Riftbound booster box is the simplest way to open a full spread of cards from Riot Games’ League of Legends trading card game, and with four English sets already out, there’s now a real choice to make. This guide explains what’s inside each box, how the sets fit together, how English and Chinese boxes differ, and where Proving Grounds fits in if you’re brand new.

We stock Riftbound in English and Chinese, and the same questions reach us every week: how many packs are in a box, which set to start with, and whether a “display” is the same thing as a box. Here are the answers, checked against Riot’s own announcements and the product sheets from UVS Games.

What Is Riftbound?

Riftbound is Riot Games’ physical trading card game, set in Runeterra, the world of League of Legends. Its first set, Origins, was Riot’s debut in physical trading card games. UVS Games handles publishing and distribution for English-speaking markets, while Shining Soul is Riot’s partner in China.

Origins reached English shelves on 31 October 2025 across North America, Latin America, EMEA and Oceania. Riftbound had already launched in China in August 2025, which is why Chinese boxes for some sets arrived before the English ones.

How a Game Works

You don’t need to play to enjoy opening a Riftbound booster box, but knowing the basics makes the cards much easier to understand. Each player brings a Champion Legend, a main deck of at least 40 cards that includes a champion unit matching the Legend, and a separate rune deck of exactly 12 runes, which provides your resources. In standard play, each player also brings three battlefields.

Your units fight over shared battlefields. You score points by conquering and holding them, and Riot’s getting started page puts the goal simply: “First to 8 points wins”, or 11 points in a four-player game.

Cards belong to six domains: Fury, Calm, Mind, Body, Chaos and Order. Your Legend’s domains decide which runes and cards you can use, so the champions you enjoy will shape the cards you look for in every pack.

What’s Inside a Riftbound Booster Box?

Every English Riftbound booster box released so far uses the same format: 24 booster packs, each with 14 cards. Riot’s official site describes the Origins box as containing “24 Booster Packs, each containing 14 Riftbound Origins cards”, and the UVS product sheets for Unleashed and Vendetta say the same. That works out at 336 cards in a Riftbound booster box.

Riot and UVS list the same core structure for each pack:

  • 7 commons
  • 3 uncommons
  • 2 foil rares or better, which can be Rares, Epics or special versions such as alternate art and Overnumbered cards
  • 1 foil card of any rarity
  • 1 token slot, which can hold a token or a rune

Riot’s pack list for Radiance also mentions an informational insert, which isn’t one of the 14 cards. Across 24 packs, that structure adds up to 168 commons, 72 uncommons, 48 foil slots for rares or better, 24 more foils of any rarity and 24 token or rune slots. Pack contents are randomised, so no two boxes open the same way.

Box, Display or Booster Display?

You’ll see the same product called a booster box, a display or a booster display. They mean the same thing: a sealed display of 24 packs from one set. Our product names follow the wording on each listing, so the English Riftbound League of Legends Trading Card Game Vendetta Booster Display is simply the Vendetta Riftbound booster box. Shops order displays in sealed cases, and the UVS sheet for Unleashed lists six displays per case.

Rarities and Special Cards

Riftbound’s main rarities are Common, Uncommon, Rare and Epic, with special versions on top. Alternate art cards, special alternate art cards and Overnumbered cards are the ones collectors look out for, and Riot’s Radiance overview groups these treatments under the heading Showcase. Every set so far has added more of them.

Unleashed introduced a new top rarity, the Ultimate Rare. Riot describes it as “a unique Overnumbered card”, and Unleashed had just one: Baron Nashor. Riot’s Radiance overview confirms the rarity continues, with at most one Ultimate Rare in any pack and no guarantee of one in any pack, box or case. No Riftbound booster box promises a special pull, so treat one as a bonus rather than an expectation.

Runes, Tokens and Legends in Your Packs

Not every card you open goes into your main deck. The token slot gives you either a token, which stands in for a unit created during play, or a rune for your rune deck, and Riot’s Radiance slot list includes alternate art runes too. Unleashed brought new tokens such as Baron Pit, Birds, Reflections and Sprites.

You’ll also open Champion Legends and champion units, the cards a deck is built around. Keep them together as you sort, because a deck needs a champion unit whose name matches its Legend. That’s one reason ready-made decks, which come with a Legend and its champion in place, are easier for beginners than a Riftbound booster box.

The Riftbound Sets So Far

Riot has released four English sets, and a fifth arrives this month. This table shows the order, with the details Riot and UVS have confirmed for each.

SetOrderEnglish releaseWhat has been confirmed
OriginsSet 131 October 2025Over 300 cards; Champion Decks for Jinx, Viktor and Lee Sin
SpiritforgedSet 213 February 2026200+ new cards; launched in China in December 2025
UnleashedSet 38 May 2026Over 220 cards; the first Ultimate Rare, Baron Nashor
VendettaSet 431 July 2026Over 160 cards, including 50+ Showcase cards
RadianceSet 523 October 2026Over 180 cards, with more than 60 Showcase cards

Each set is a separate Riftbound booster box, so the choice comes down to which champions, mechanics and artwork appeal to you most.

Origins

Origins is where the game began. Riot’s launch announcement described “over 300 cards”, 14-card booster packs, 56-card Champion Decks for Jinx, Lee Sin and Viktor, and the Proving Grounds starter box for two to four players.

An Origins Riftbound booster box is a natural first box for a collector who wants to start at the beginning, and its cards laid the foundation that every later set builds on. Our English Riftbound League of Legends TCG Origins Booster Box is the English edition of that first set.

Spiritforged

Spiritforged is the second set. Riot announced it for December 2025 in China and 13 February 2026 in English, and says it “features 200+ new cards”. Its English launch release named twelve new Champion Legends: Rek’Sai, Draven, Irelia, Rumble, Lucian, Sivir, Azir, Ezreal, Ornn, Renata Glasc, Fiora and Jax.

The set also brought Spirit Blossom-themed alternate art and new mechanics, led by Equipment, which attaches to units and stays in play if the unit is defeated. Two Champion Decks, for Rumble and Fiora, launched with it. If you like the Spirit Blossom look, the English Riftbound: League of Legends Spiritforged Booster Box is the one to open.

Unleashed

Unleashed is the third set, released in China on 10 April 2026 and in English on 8 May 2026. Riot lists “over 220 cards and over 30 alternate art cards”, with Champion Legends Kha’Zix, Lillia, Diana and Ivern, plus the new Ambush, XP and Hunt mechanics. It’s also the set that introduced the Ultimate Rare.

Unleashed also launched the Vault, a smaller product. UVS lists six Unleashed booster packs, 36 runes (six of each type), three copies of a double-sided full-art token, two punch-out art dividers and a card storage box. Champion Decks for Vi and Vex arrived at the same time, each with a 56-card deck and one Unleashed booster.

For the full set, the English Riftbound Unleashed Booster Display holds 24 packs.

Vendetta

Vendetta is the fourth set, released on 31 July 2026. Riot says it has “over 160 cards” with “more than 50 Showcase cards”, and it was the first set to launch in English and Simplified Chinese on the same day.

Its theme is rivalry. Riot names nine Champion Legends: Akali, Kennen, Zed, Shen, Mel, Jayce, Ambessa, Nasus and Renekton. It also introduced three new domain pairings: Fury and Calm, Mind and Body, and Chaos and Order. A Showcase series spotlights rival duos such as Vi and Jinx, and Jayce and Viktor.

Vendetta also brought the first Showdown Deck, Zed versus Shen. UVS lists two 56-card decks, two Vendetta booster packs and two paper playmats in one box.

As the newest English set we list, the Vendetta Riftbound booster box is the one to pick if you want the latest cards for play right now.

Radiance: The Fifth Set

Riot has confirmed Radiance as Riftbound’s fifth set, launching worldwide on 23 October 2026 in English, French and Chinese, with Pre-Rift events from 16 to 22 October. UVS describes it as “featuring over 180 cards” with “more than 60 showcase cards”, and Ekko, Evelynn and Seraphine appear in Riftbound for the first time.

The Vault returns for Radiance, alongside a Showdown Deck for Seraphine and Evelynn. Riot’s overview also mentions K/DA-themed special alternate art and Heartsteel Overnumbered cards. Release details can change, so check the official Radiance Overview for the latest, and our English Riftbound category for current listings.

Pre-Rift Events: Riftbound’s Launch Week

Recent sets have opened with Pre-Rift events at local game stores in the week before release. For Unleashed, UVS’s Pre-Rift kits gave each player a 15-card mini preconstructed deck, five booster packs and a Pre-Rift promo card, and the Radiance kits follow the same pattern.

It’s a relaxed way to try a new set before deciding whether a full Riftbound booster box is right for you. Typically you open packs, add the cards to a small ready-made deck and play a few games against other people doing the same. Ask your local store whether it’s running Radiance Pre-Rifts between 16 and 22 October.

Riftbound Booster Box: English or Chinese?

Both versions use the same game, but the language, release timing and box formats differ, so it’s worth deciding before you buy.

  • English boxes suit players at UK events and anyone who wants to read every card. Each English box holds 24 packs of 14 cards.
  • Chinese boxes are printed in Simplified Chinese. They’re popular with collectors, and some Chinese sets arrived months before the English edition.
  • Release timing has now lined up. Origins, Spiritforged and Unleashed reached China first, while Vendetta and Radiance are simultaneous releases.

Chinese releases also come in their own box formats, with names such as jumbo and slim, and their pack counts and pack sizes don’t always match an English display. Our Chinese Riftbound Spiritforged Jumbo Booster Box is one example, and you’ll find more in our Chinese Riftbound category. Check each product page for its exact contents.

The Riftbound booster box English players see most often is the 24-pack display, and it’s the simplest choice if you plan to play at English-language events, read every card and trade locally. If you collect for artwork or display, a Chinese box is a great alternative.

New to Riftbound? Start With Proving Grounds

A Riftbound booster box is full of cards, but it isn’t a ready-to-play deck. If you’re new to the game, Proving Grounds is the friendlier first step. Riot describes it as “Everything 2-4 players need to start”, with four preconstructed decks, a rulebook, playmats and tokens. Its decks feature Annie, Master Yi, Lux and Garen.

That makes the English Riftbound: League of Legends TCG Origins Proving Grounds a good choice for a family, a group of friends or anyone learning the rules together.

Riot’s other ready-made products are useful too:

  • Champion Decks are 56-card ready-to-play decks built around a single champion. The Unleashed decks for Vi and Vex each add a booster pack, a playmat and a paper deck box.
  • Showdown Decks give you two ready-to-play decks in one box, starting with Zed versus Shen in Vendetta.
  • The Vault gives you six booster packs, 36 runes, tokens and a storage box, a smaller step than a full display.
  • Sleeved booster packs hold a single pack, for when you just want to try a set.

Once you know which domains and champions you enjoy, a Riftbound booster box is the natural next step. You’ll open plenty of cards to improve your deck, along with duplicates to trade with friends.

How to Choose a Riftbound Booster Box

There’s no single best set to open, but your goal usually points to the right Riftbound booster box. Here’s how we’d think about it.

  • You want the newest cards for play: pick Vendetta, the latest English set we list, then look at Radiance after 23 October.
  • You want to start a collection from the beginning: an Origins Riftbound booster box gives you the first set and the original champions.
  • You love a particular champion: check which set introduced their Legend, then pick that set’s box.
  • You collect special cards: Unleashed introduced the Ultimate Rare, Vendetta has more than 50 Showcase cards and Radiance more than 60.
  • You’d rather read every card: choose English. If artwork or display matters most, a Chinese box is worth a look.

If a full box feels like too much, the Vault or a Champion Deck is a smaller way in. Many players start with a deck, then add a Riftbound booster box once they’re sure which domains suit them.

Riftbound Booster Box or the Vault?

The Vault and the Riftbound booster box suit different jobs. A box gives you 24 packs and nothing else, so it’s the better choice if you mainly want cards. The Vault gives you six packs plus 36 runes, tokens and a storage box, so it’s handy for a new player who wants to keep a collection organised from day one.

Some players buy both: a Vault first, for the storage box and runes, and a Riftbound booster box English or Chinese once they know which set they enjoy most.

Tips for Opening a Riftbound Booster Box

Opening a full Riftbound booster box takes a while, and a little preparation keeps your best cards safe.

  • Sleeve foil rares straight away. Every pack has foils, so keep sleeves and top loaders within reach.
  • Keep runes and tokens together. Each pack has a token slot, and you’ll need 12 runes for every deck you build.
  • Sort as you go. Separate commons, uncommons and rares, and put alternate art, Overnumbered and Showcase cards to one side.
  • Note the domains you open. It helps you see which Legend your new cards suit best.
  • Store sealed boxes flat, somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight.

If you’re opening with friends, agree beforehand how you’ll share the cards. A Riftbound booster box of 24 packs splits neatly between two, three, four or six people.

Riftbound Booster Box FAQs

How many packs are in a Riftbound booster box?

An English Riftbound booster box holds 24 booster packs, and each pack contains 14 cards, including a token or rune slot.

Is a booster display different from a booster box?

No. Booster display, display and booster box all describe the same sealed product of 24 packs from one set.

What order did the Riftbound sets release in?

Origins came first in October 2025, followed by Spiritforged, Unleashed and Vendetta. Radiance is the fifth set, launching on 23 October 2026.

Should I buy a Riftbound booster box English or Chinese?

English suits players at UK events and anyone who wants to read the cards. Chinese boxes are a popular choice for collectors and come in their own box formats.

Is a booster box the best way to learn Riftbound?

For complete beginners, Proving Grounds or a Champion Deck is easier, because the decks are ready to play. A booster box is ideal once you know the basics.

Does every box contain an Ultimate Rare?

No. Riot says there is no guaranteed Ultimate Rare in any pack, box or case, and a pack can contain at most one.
