Karuta Set, Japanese Style
Karuta Set is one of the most familiar family card games in Japan, where it is called babanuki. The idea is simple: players pair off matching cards, draw in turn from a neighbour’s hidden hand, and try not to be the one left holding the odd card at the end. Wikipedia’s guide to Karuta Set covers its history and the classic rules. Check the box and photos for the exact contents of this edition, as Japanese family card games vary in layout and card count. Whatever the details, the aim is quick, sociable fun with Pokémon at the centre.
A Gift for Every Age
Because family card games like this are about pictures and luck more than reading, they are an easy way for younger fans to enjoy Pokémon alongside parents, grandparents and older siblings. The bright yellow box also looks good on a shelf next to other Japanese Pokémon goods, and collectors who already own the blue Karuta Set edition may want the yellow one to complete the pair. It is a lovely present for a birthday, a school holiday or a family games night, and it travels well for trips away.
