The Pokémon 30th anniversary set is the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration expansion, a special all-foil release that launched worldwide on 16 September 2026 to mark three decades of Pokémon. This guide explains what the set is, what you’ll find in a booster pack, the new rarities worth knowing about and how the standard Elite Trainer Box differs from the Pokémon Center version.
We also walk through the full English product line-up, from booster bundles to the Ultra-Premium Collections, and the Japanese and Chinese releases that sit alongside it. Every product detail below comes from The Pokémon Company’s own announcements, well-established fan databases or trade reports. Where something hadn’t been confirmed when we wrote this guide, we say so plainly.

What Is the Pokémon 30th Anniversary Set?
The official name of the Pokémon 30th anniversary set is 30th Celebration. It belongs to the Mega Evolution era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, but it plays by its own rules: every card is foil, including the Basic Energy, and almost every card carries the special 30th anniversary logo.
It’s also the first Pokémon TCG set to launch on the same day around the world. The English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese versions all arrived on 16 September 2026, and Rare Candy reports that the digital version reached Pokémon TCG Live a day earlier, on 15 September. That makes the Pokémon 30th anniversary set unusual for collectors who normally wait months for an English version of a Japanese release.
The set mixes brand-new cards with returning favourites. You’ll find new artwork of Pokémon in daytime and night-time scenes, a run of 30 Pikachu cards, a brand-new rarity called Futuristic Rare and 30 classic cards from the game’s history brought back with a foil finish. The Pokémon Company’s own overview is in the official 30th Celebration announcement.
Why 2026 Is Pokémon’s 30th Year
Pokémon began with Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, released in Japan on 27 February 1996. That date is celebrated every year as Pokémon Day, and 2026 marks the 30th. The trading card game followed in October 1996, when the first Japanese expansion launched, so the card game itself reaches 30 this autumn.
Collectors have been waiting for 30th anniversary Pokémon cards since Pokémon Day in February, and that’s why so many 30th anniversary Pokémon products have appeared through 2026. Before the main set arrived, The Pokémon Company released three waves of starter-themed boxes with new illustrations of every region’s first partners, which we cover in our First Partner collections guide. The 30th Celebration expansion is the centrepiece of the year, with more products still to come before Christmas.
What’s Inside a 30th Celebration Booster Pack
Each English booster pack contains five foil cards, one foil Basic Energy and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. One of those five cards is always one of the 30 Pikachu cards, each drawn by a different artist, so every pack you open includes a Pikachu.
Because the whole set is foil, opening the Pokémon 30th anniversary set feels different from a normal expansion. There are no plain non-holo commons to sort through, and even the Energy shines. It also means every pull is worth sleeving with care, which we come back to in our tips section.
The Japanese version is set up differently, with six cards per pack. We explain the Japanese and Chinese formats in their own section further down.
Rarities and Cards in the Pokémon 30th Anniversary Set
The English Pokémon 30th anniversary set has a main set numbered to 128, with secret cards numbered beyond that. Bulbapedia’s 30th Celebration page lists the English set at more than 160 cards, and the Poster Collection’s poster is described as showing more than 160 cards from the expansion. These are the rarities and card groups to know.
- Pikachu cards (023/128 to 052/128). Thirty foil Pikachu, each by a different illustrator. Completing all 30 is a goal in itself.
- Futuristic Rare. A new rarity with artwork by YOSHIROTTEN, showing Pokémon ex against a futuristic background. Bulbapedia lists Mewtwo ex (157/128) and Mew ex (158/128) as the English Futuristic Rares.
- RGB Rare. Another new secret rarity, using a limited palette of bright red, green and blue. Bulbapedia lists three RGB Rare Mew cards, marked R, G and B rather than numbered.
- Classic Collection. Thirty classic cards from the game’s history return with a foil finish. The Pokémon Company says they aren’t legal in the Standard format but can be played in formats that allow their original prints.
- Day and night pairs. Many Pokémon appear in matching daytime and night-time artwork, a theme that runs right through the products.
Among the main-set cards, the ones fans talk about most include Greninja ex (021/128), two Pikachu ex (053/128 and 054/128), Mewtwo ex (064/128), Mew ex (066/128), Espeon ex (070/128) and Sylveon ex (071/128). Legendary Pokémon such as Ho-Oh, Reshiram, Kyogre, Palkia, Zekrom and Xerneas appear as Rare cards. These numbers match the English lists on Bulbapedia and Serebii.
We haven’t seen a clear official statement on how often Classic Collection cards appear in standard booster packs. What is confirmed is that each Ultra-Premium Collection includes one dedicated Classic Collection booster pack, so that’s the guaranteed route if those reprints are your priority.
The Elite Trainer Box and Pokémon Center 30th Anniversary ETB
The Elite Trainer Box is the product most people reach for first, and for the Pokémon 30th anniversary set there are two versions: the standard box sold by retailers and a Pokémon Center edition. They look similar on a shelf, but the contents differ in two important ways.
The standard 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box
The standard ETB launched on 16 September 2026. According to the official product line-up announcement and retailer contents lists, it includes:
- 9 Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration booster packs
- 1 full-art foil Nidorina promo card
- 65 card sleeves
- 16 foil Basic Energy cards
- A player’s guide to the expansion
- 6 damage-counter dice, a competition-legal coin-flip die and a plastic coin
- A storage box with dividers and a Pokémon TCG Live code card
One detail stands out: this box has 16 foil Basic Energy cards, fewer than the 40 Energy cards in recent standard ETBs. Because the set’s Energy is foil, they’re a nice extra rather than a full playing supply. You’ll find it as the English Pokémon 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box in our shop.
The Pokémon Center 30th anniversary ETB
The Pokémon Center 30th anniversary ETB, officially the 30th Celebration Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, was made for The Pokémon Company’s own Pokémon Center store. It contains everything in the standard box, plus two extra booster packs for 11 in total, and a second full-art Nidorina promo stamped with the Pokémon Center logo.
That stamped Nidorina is the part collectors care about most, because it only comes in this box. Bulbapedia also notes that Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Boxes have a slightly different box design from the retail versions, so the two are easy to tell apart side by side.

Which version should you choose?
If you want to open packs and use the accessories, the standard ETB gives you the full kit. If you collect promos, or you want the most packs from a single box, the Pokémon Center 30th anniversary ETB is the one to look for. We stock the Pokémon 30th Celebration Pokémon Center ETB alongside the standard box.
The English 30th Celebration Product Line-Up

Two smaller products round out the range. Trade reports list a 2-pack blister with an Eevee promo and a plastic coin, and The Pokémon Company’s line-up announcement includes a 30th Celebration ex Tin with four packs and a Sylveon ex or Greninja ex promo, which Rare Candy lists for 4 December 2026.
Release dates can move, especially for the later waves, so check the product page before planning around a date. The 30th Celebration category in our shop gathers every English, Japanese and Chinese product we list for the anniversary in one place.
Booster bundles and mini tins
The booster bundle is the simplest way into the Pokémon 30th anniversary set: six packs in a slim box, with no extras to pay for. Mini tins hold two packs, a sticker sheet and an art card that matches the tin, and several designs are available. We list the English Pokémon 30th Celebration Booster Bundle and the English Pokémon 30th Celebration Mini Tin Display for anyone who wants a run of tins.
The Sylveon ex and Greninja ex boxes
The two Pokémon ex Boxes each contain four booster packs, a foil promo of the featured Pokémon and an oversize card of the same Pokémon. They’re a good middle ground between a bundle and an ETB if you’d like a guaranteed promo of a favourite. Choose the English Pokémon 30th Celebration Sylveon ex Box or the English Pokémon 30th Celebration Greninja ex Box.

The Ultra-Premium Collections
The Day and Night Ultra-Premium Collections are the biggest English products for the anniversary, scheduled for 6 November 2026. Each contains 29 booster packs of the Pokémon 30th anniversary set, one Classic Collection booster pack, a foil Pikachu ex promo illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN and a foil promo of Espeon ex (Day) or Umbreon ex (Night).
They also include a playmat, 65 card sleeves, a deck box, a metal coin, six damage-counter dice and a Pokémon TCG Live code card. iCv2’s report on the collections lists the full contents. We list the Pokémon 30th Celebration Ultra Premium Collection Day.

Japanese and Chinese 30th Anniversary Pokémon Releases
The 30th anniversary Pokémon line-up isn’t only in English. Because the set launched worldwide on the same day, Japanese and Simplified Chinese collectors opened it at the same time as everyone else, but the products themselves are built differently.
Japanese 30th CELEBRATION
In Japan the Pokémon 30th anniversary set is called 30th CELEBRATION, and it also released on 16 September 2026. Japanese packs hold six foil cards, and Japanese retailer listings and PokéGuardian put 20 packs in each booster box. The Japanese main set is numbered to 103, so card numbers don’t match the English version.
Japan doesn’t get Elite Trainer Boxes at all. Bulbapedia notes that ETBs are only made for the markets The Pokémon Company International supports, which is why Japanese fans buy booster boxes instead. You can find the Japanese 30th Celebration booster box in our shop.

Japan also has a 30th Celebration Premium Deck Set with Espeon ex and Umbreon ex decks, which released alongside the set. Next comes a run of nine 30th CELEBRATION Card Sets, one for each region’s trio of first partner Pokémon, starting with Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Bulbapedia lists their release date as 16 October 2026.

Chinese 30th Celebration
The Simplified Chinese version of the Pokémon 30th anniversary set also launched on 16 September 2026, on the same day as English and Japanese. Bulbapedia and Bill’s Archive both confirm the date, and Bill’s Archive lists Simplified Chinese packs of six foil cards. Rare Candy reports that a Traditional Chinese edition launched the same day too.
The Chinese editions are packaged differently from the English and Japanese ones, with their own gift boxes and pack counts, so check the listing for the exact edition and contents before you order. We list the Chinese Pokémon 30th Celebration Booster Box.
How to Choose a Pokémon 30th Anniversary Set Product
With so many products, the right choice depends on who it’s for and how you like to collect. These are the questions we’d ask.
- Just want to open some packs? A booster bundle gives you six packs of the Pokémon 30th anniversary set with no extras.
- New player or a gift for one? The standard Elite Trainer Box has packs, sleeves, dice and a storage box in one.
- Promo collector? The Pokémon Center 30th anniversary ETB adds the stamped Nidorina and two extra packs.
- Favourite Pokémon? The Sylveon ex and Greninja ex boxes guarantee a promo and an oversize card of each.
- Want the biggest display piece? The Ultra-Premium Collections pair 29 packs with a playmat and anniversary promos.
- Prefer Japanese cards? The Japanese booster box gives you 20 packs of six cards in Japanese.
If you’re buying for a younger fan, mini tins are colourful and easy to wrap. For a collector who already owns the main English products, the Japanese and Chinese versions of the Pokémon 30th anniversary set are a different way to enjoy 30th anniversary Pokémon cards.
Tips for Opening and Storing an All-Foil Set
Foil cards need a little more care than ordinary cards, and with every card in the Pokémon 30th anniversary set being foil, a few habits make a real difference.
- Sleeve the cards you want to keep as soon as you open them, especially Pikachu cards and secret rares.
- Use top loaders or semi-rigid holders for your best pulls, and keep binders upright on a shelf.
- Store sealed boxes flat, in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, since heat and damp can make foil cards bow.
- Keep a checklist of the 30 Pikachu cards so you can see at a glance which ones you still need.
If you plan to keep a box sealed, don’t stack heavy items on top of it. Elite Trainer Boxes and Ultra-Premium Collections are large boxes, and crushed corners are one of the easiest kinds of damage to avoid with a little care.
